About Solar Energy

Besides, if we are to receive direct heat from the sun, life as we know it will be non-existent. Instead, the sun’s radiant energy travels through space at the speed of light as electromagnetic waves, which are then absorbed by an object and subsequently transformed into heat.

Keep in mind that the planet’s land surface, bodies of water and atmosphere including the clouds absorb the sun’s radiant energy at a rate of approximately 70 percent. The remaining 30 percent is reflected back into space. When the sun’s radiant energy is absorbed by the above mentioned planetary features, their temperatures start to rise. The results are weather patterns like wind, rain and cyclones while the process of photosynthesis starts to happen.

Uses of Solar Energy in Modern Life

Now that we know the basics about solar energy, the next step is to know about its uses in terms of power generation in the renewable energy sector. Although we continue to use solar energy stored in plants and animals from millions of years ago through petroleum, coal and other fossil fuels, we have seen and continue to bear witness to the environmental impact of their uses. Thus, we seek to harness the power of the sun through clean means, so to speak.

The solar energy sector continues to discover better ways to harness the sun’s tremendous power. We have seen the advances in solar panel technology coupled with the public and private initiatives and incentives to adopt solar energy in commercial and residential applications. • Electricity can be generated in two ways. First, the direct way is through photovoltaic cells that convert solar light into electric current by using the photoelectric effect.
